Introducing Dreamweaver UltraDev 4

Macromedia Dreamweaver UltraDev 4 is an integrated Web development environment for designing and building Web applications. UltraDev 4 supports three different application-building environments, better known as server technologies: Microsoft’s Active Server Pages (ASP), Sun’s JavaServer Pages (JSP), and Macromedia’s ColdFusion. (ColdFusion was a product of Allaire Corporation but now is included in the Macromedia product line after the merger of Allaire with Macromedia.) Macromedia’s Web site design and management tool, Dreamweaver 4, is integrated with UltraDev 4 to give you a visual environment for developing and managing Web applications.

With Dreamweaver UltraDev 4 (called UltraDev 4 for short), you can build dynamic Web applications that can connect to a database and display updated information as users request it. To connect to and retrieve information from a database, a Web application uses an application server associated with a specific server technology. The application server connects to the database, retrieves information from it, processes this information, and sends it to the browser, which then displays it to the user. To perform these tasks, the application server executes the instructions contained in server-side programs.
