Chapter 11. Presenting Content in a Page > Creating and Managing Layers

Creating and Managing Layers

Working with tables is not too much fun when it comes to resizing text or an image in a particular cell without affecting the width and height of the other cells in the table. The problems increase if you are trying to alter the size of the rows or columns within a nested table. However, UltraDev enables you to overcome all these tiny but time-consuming problems with the help of layers. You can use layers to move, resize, hide, and display the content of a Web page. In addition, you can use layers to provide other dynamic effects to the contents of your Web Page by animating the layers. For example, by animating layers, you can make a particular text move from one end of the Web page to another when the user clicks a button on the Web page.

Layers are based on stylesheets. The only disadvantage of using layers in your Web pages is that they are supported only by Internet Explorer 4.0, Netscape Navigator 4.0, and the later versions of these browsers, because only these browsers support stylesheets.
