Chapter 14. Optimizing Your Work > Templates and Libraries

Templates and Libraries

Templates and libraries are special categories of assets provided by the Assets panel. A template is a document that can be used to create multiple documents with a similar layout. You can easily redesign a Web site that contains multiple pages just by redesigning the templates or library items associated with them. This is possible because templates and library items are linked assets that automatically update all the pages created from them whenever they are changed.

Templates let you define the editable and noneditable regions of your Web page. For example, if you have a Web site offering online software courses, the main layout of the Web site, such as the categories, navigation buttons, FAQ sections, and preassessment sections, will remain the same for all the courses. However, the content, such as the course title, course matter, and questions within the preassessment sections, will vary from course to course. Therefore, you can create a template with the main layout section as a noneditable region and the content section as an editable region. You can use this template to create a new page for every new course you add to the site.
