Introducing Links

Links help you design a flexible site that can be resourceful as well as lean. By means of links you can create many information access points in your documents. You do not have to create as many documents as there are information points because each information point can link to the same document. For example, consider a Web site that enables users to buy books. This Web site might contain various sections that allow the user to browse the available books, add books to a shopping cart, place orders for the books, rate the books, and so on. Such a Web site will also ideally carry a section on the latest book releases. A user might want to access information on the latest book releases from any section of the Web site. To enable this, you can create information access points from every section of the Web site to the document that contains this information by means of links. Thus, a single well-thought-out document will suffice to present all the information that a user might look out for from various points in the site.

UltraDev provides you with several ways to create and manage links. You can create links from text or images present anywhere in a document, whether they are in a table, layer, or frame. Using the link tools available in UltraDev, you can create links to documents located on other sites, multimedia files, and downloadable software. You can also add behaviors to your links. You can use these behaviors to perform functions such as describe the destination of a link on the status bar, open a linked image in a new browser window, or display links in a drop-down menu called a jump menu.
