Activity Corner

In this section, you begin building a simple Web application by using the concepts and skills you learned in this chapter. You will create a Web site called TuneIn.com that enables users to browse and listen to songs of their choice. This Web site also provides the option of allowing users to place an order for customized CDs that contain the songs selected by the users. To place an order for a customized CD, the user must first register with the site. Users can also log on to the site and edit their profile. After the users log on to the site, they can place an order for a customized CD. The site allows users to pay with a credit card or check. These are the broad features that the site provides. The files and folders necessary for creating this sample Web site can be found by browsing to www.quepublishing.com and typing 0789725770 for the ISBN to go to the info page for this book.

Before you begin to create this site, you need to have access to database systems, such as Access, a Web server, and an application server. If you plan to use the ColdFusion application server that ships with the UltraDev CD, make sure you install it on a system that has a Web server, such as IIS or PWS. If you want to use JSP, you can use the copy of JRun that ships with the UltraDev CD. You must have access to a Web server, such as IIS or PWS, to run JRun. If you are planning to use ASP for developing your Web site, you can use Web servers, such as IIS or PWS, that double as application servers. This Wet site is built assuming that you are connecting to a Web server that uses the HTTP protocol.
