Chapter 17. Connecting to a Database > Database Connections

Database Connections

ASP, JSP, and CFML applications developed in UltraDev can connect to a wide variety of databases, such as Microsoft Access, Oracle 8i, DB2, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, Sybase, and more. UltraDev provides you many methods by which you can connect to the database of your choice. You can choose the method most suitable to you depending on the system you are using to host your Web site (Windows, Macintosh, UNIX, or Linux), the server configuration you have chosen (ASP, JSP, or ColdFusion), and the database you want to access.

UltraDev uses the connections you make to a database to display data at design time as well as at runtime. During design time, UltraDev uses these connections to show dynamic data in Live Data view. Live Data view gives you a preview of data as it appears at runtime. This helps you make necessary changes to the data’s presentation before it can be hosted on a Web server.
