Chapter 3. Rapid Rows, Cruising Columns:... > Sort and Format or Format and Sort?

Sort and Format or Format and Sort?

Sort Table and Format Table are real powerhouses when it comes to managing your tabular data; you’ll find them both under the Commands menu. But if you need a formatted, sorted table, which command do you run first? And the answer is that word you love to hate, “depends.” You can apply formatting to table elements two ways: the formatting attributes are either coded within each table row tag, <tr>, or within every table cell, <td>. If you would rather use the <tr> method, which offers cleaner code, format before you sort. On the other hand, if you want to go the <td> route for more granular control, sort first and format later. Opting for the second technique? Be sure to select the Apply All Attributes to TD Tags Instead of TR Tags option in the Format Table dialog box.
