Height Doesn’t Matter

Many browsers don’t recognize the height attribute in table code because it is deprecated. Stripping these attributes manually could take hours. A simple Find and Replace wouldn’t work because the height values may differ, leaving you to double-check that all are removed. If you’re going to run this on files that aren’t open, be sure to make backups before you start, just in case.

Set up the Find and Replace dialog as shown in the figure accompanying this tip, but feel free to change the Find In option to suit your needs. Don’t click Replace All just yet; you need to make sure that you only replace in <table>, <tr>, <th>, and <td>. Click Find All instead so that you can review the results first in the Results panel. You’ll need to sort the results by clicking the Matched Text column header. If only the previously mentioned table tags are found, go ahead and click Replace All. If other tags are listed, such as the <img> tag, you’ll want to replace one at a time, or jump on over to Chapter 10 to read “Replacing Within Results.”
