Chapter 9. Peel Rubber: Maxing Out Your Code > Instant Gra-Tag-Ification

Instant Gra-Tag-Ification

Want to wow your geeky friends? Want to stun your non-geeky friends into a perpetual “Whaa”? Show them how Dreamweaver can import an entire new DTD or language schema with one command? “Zowie,” you say? Then read on, my geek buddy. As I’m sure you know, being the ubergeek you are, when a new XML language or other markup language is crafted, a Document Type Definition (DTD to you and me) is written that specifies the included tags and respective attributes. Dreamweaver has the power to read a DTD and be ready to write code in whatever new language is described. Let’s say you want to use Dreamweaver as your new SVG editor, so you go up to the W3C and download the SVG DTD. Then, choose Edit > Tag Libraries in Dreamweaver. Select Add (+) and choose the DTD Schema > Import XML DTD or Schema File option. Browse to your file and before you say Tim Berners-Lee backward, Dreamweaver has imported the file and set up your new tag set. If you want you can even continue to use the Tag Libraries dialog to specify how you want your new tags styled (uppercase, lowercase, indented, you name it) when Dreamweaver puts’em on the page. What more could any geek want? Besides the latest wrist refrigerator from Sony, I mean.
