Chapter 9. Peel Rubber: Maxing Out Your Code > A Character in Every Crowd

A Character in Every Crowd

As if the Insert > HTML > Special Characters > Other 99 characters just aren’t enough for you, there is a way to access roughly 255 instead as long as you have Code Hints enabled in Preferences. If you can recognize a character itself or its named entity, you can hand-code it easily in Dreamweaver; you don’t even need to know the keyboard shortcuts!

In Code view, type an ampersand (&) and it will bring up the code hints for all “named” special characters (numbered special characters do not have code hints). Then press the next letter in the name until the special character you want is highlighted, and press Enter (Return). Alternatively, you can press the down-arrow key to highlight a named character and then press Enter (Return).
