Chapter 9. Peel Rubber: Maxing Out Your Code > Create Your Own Code Hints

Create Your Own Code Hints

If you’re creating XML documents or making custom ColdFusion or ASP.Net tags, you’ll find the custom code hints feature especially useful.Edit > Tag Libraries not only lets you add custom tags, attributes, and their values, it also gives you complete control over the format of your code. (See “Complete Formatting Control” on the next page in this chapter.)

Using the Tag Library Editor is rather straightforward. Click the Add (+) button, select New Tags, and then choose the Tag Library folder you want to add a tag to from the drop-down list. Now type the tag name, check the box if it should have a closing tag, and then click OK. The tag is represented by a folder within the Tag Library you chose. If the new tag has potential attributes or you want to add attributes to an existing tag, click the Add (+) button again, and choose New Attributes. Now select the Tag Library and the tag from the respective drop-down list, and then type the attribute and click OK. Did you notice that the menu says tags and attributes, both plural? Try entering multiple tags or attributes separated by a comma. You can add as many tags or attributes at one time as you like.
