Chapter 10. Moving on Down the Road: Int... > Rated X: Macromedia Code Exposed

Rated X: Macromedia Code Exposed

This tip is rated X for eXtremely sophisticated. If you feel the urge to change an existing Macromedia server behavior, you’ll either need to make copies of all involved files and hand-code the changes, or try to do it through the Server Behavior Builder. To get the server behavior to appear in the New Server Behavior dialog box, you must first modify its .edml file. Find the original server behavior’s .edml file in the appropriate server model folder under Dreamweaver MX 2004\Configuration\ServerBehaviors\. You’re looking for the .edml file that contains hideFromBuilder="true". Change the true to false, save the file, and then restart Dreamweaver. Now click the Server Behavior panel’s Add (+) button and then select New Server Behavior from the drop-down list. Yes, I noticed there was an Edit Server Behavior option. Don’t use it on Macromedia’s server behaviors! It is safer to copy an existing server behavior and just have your own version of it than to risk ruining the original server behavior.
