Show More Layers

Sometimes you may find a dialog that you wish were just a little different. Take the Show-Hide Layers Behavior, for example. Most of the time I have more than four layers in a document when I need this behavior, and I always have to scroll to find the layer I need. Thankfully I’m not stuck with the dialog the way it is because the interface is nothing more than a simple HTML file that I can customize.

Before you customize any files that reside in Dreamweaver’s main configuration folder, always make a backup. You may think the change is insignificant, but you never know what might go wrong. Now that I’ve got the usual disclaimer out of the way, let’s open up Dreamweaver MX 2004\Configuration\Behaviors\Actions\Show-Hide Layers.htm in Dreamweaver. Usually I have more then four layers to work with and I don’t like to scroll if it can be avoided. So, let’s make the Named Layers field much taller. Select the field in Design view, and then in the List/Menu Property inspector, change the Height from 4 to 12 (or however many lines you’d like). When you’re done, save the file and restart Dreamweaver to see your change in effect.
