Editable and Selectable? Incredible!

Looking for a cool input control? I know, it’s what you live for. Well, here’s one that I’ve long lusted for. Many of the drop-down lists used on standard program user interfaces (not web applications) allow users to type in their own value if they don’t see something they like in the list. In the trade, this is known as an editable select list. To convert a <select> list in Dreamweaver to editable format takes years of training and several man-years of labor. Or, you could just add these attributes to the tag: editable=“true” edittext=”some default value”. You must use the edittext attribute, but you can leave the value empty. That’s it. Now all the items on the list are editable. Often, a user interface design might call for the first item in the list to be blank, indicating that it’s editable. In such cases, the <select> tag would look like this:
