Chapter 10. Moving on Down the Road: Integrating and Extending Dreamweaver

Chapter 10. Moving on Down the Road: Integrating and Extending Dreamweaver

I never got into souping up or detailing cars when I was growing up—and, considering that my first car was a Pacer, that’s probably a good thing. Perhaps that explains why I’m so crazy about the options in Dreamweaver for customization and extensibility. This stuff just (pick one)...(a) rocks my world, (b) floats my boat, or (c) christens my cabbage. (Sorry about that last one; I’m trying to start a new cliché and this one obviously needs some work.)

In this chapter, we’ve tried to collect for you the best tips from the realm that takes Dreamweaver to the next level. Consequently, you’ll find tips for folks just starting out with customization by creating commands via the History panel (right next to the strategies for building floating panels). You’ll also find some cool methods for customizing Dreamweaver that could actually make you some cash. Show you the money, you say? Just consider this chapter to be all over the map—and customizing and extending Dreamweaver takes a pretty big map—and use it as your guide to buried treasure.

Before you continue, read this quick note from our lawyers: Be forewarned that the investigation and usage of Macromedia Dreamweaver extensionology and customizabilitization is extremely addictive and could cause loss of sleep and momentary bouts of frustration coupled with vast stretches of oh-my-gosh-I-can’t-believe-it-actually-works!-itis. Proceed at your own risk. Eat your vegetables. Christen the Cabbage.
