Chapter 7. Miscellaneous Movers and Shak... > Paging Mr. Find. Paging Ms. Replace....

Paging Mr. Find. Paging Ms. Replace. Your Selection Is Ready

Don’t you just hate it when you have to open up another editor just to do one thing that you can’t do in Dreamweaver? Now there’s one less reason to fire up those other programs: Find and Replace in a selection. Searching for the references to FooBar Soda in one particular <div>? Select that <div> from the tag selector and choose Edit > Find and Replace or use that memorable keyboard shortcut, Ctrl+F (Cmd+F). Now here’s where the road divides and what happens next depends on what you actually selected. If your selection is under a certain size (512 characters to be exact), the selection is automatically inserted in the Find area; if the number of characters selected is over the magic number, the Find area is left blank. Should the Find area include your selection and you plan to limit your search to the highlighted area — before you do anything else—enter your new search criteria. This will replace the text in the Find area with whatever it is you’re looking for. After your new search criteria is in, choose Selected Text from the Find In list at the top of the dialog. Now you’re ready to continue with your Find and Replace mission—in a selected area, of course.
