Introduction > Why we wrote this book

Why we wrote this book

Sitting around the virtual café one day, we had a great idea.

“Hey, we know some stuff,” we said to each other, “Maybe the stuff we know could help other folks interested in the same stuff.”

“Yeah, but, it’s got to be the best stuff, the crème de la crème stuff, the greatest stuff on earth!” we agreed.

“Killer stuff!” we exclaimed simultaneously.

After several Internet-years of research (’bout a week-and-a-half in so-called “real time”), we realized what we had wasn’t just a bunch of stuff; it was a full range of time-saving, productivity-enhancing, Dreamweaver MX 2004 tips with an energy efficiency rating of 11.3. You’ve seen tips like these before, sprinkled through every major Dreamweaver book ever published (and there have been a few), appearing in sidebars or as special asides, typically with cutesy icons created as an exercise in Design 101. Quite often, those tips, notes, and warnings are what really super-charge a book, inspiring all those “Aha” and “Oh, now I get it” responses and the “Why didn’t they tell me this earlier?” questions all across the land.

So what makes this book special? Let us count the ways. First, we’ve dispensed with everything but the tips! You won’t have to wade through pages and pages of overviews or feature descriptions to get to the good stuff. Second, we’ve obliterated all those annoying little icons—just blew ’em to smithereens! They blew up real good.[*] Third, there’s one thing the tips in all those regular Dreamweaver books don’t have that we have in abundance: pictures! Full-color figures illustrate nearly every tip—it’s the closest thing to a mind meld this side of Vulcan.[*]

[*] Inside jokes—If you don’t get ’em, just give a little knowing snort and a minor smirk and nobody will know.
