No Trespassing

When you don’t want to allow other layers to overlap existing layers, you don’t have to do any math to calculate positioning. Even if it is simple addition and subtraction, who wants to do math? There is a special command that you can enable and disable as needed that will prevent layers inserted with the Draw Layer object from overlapping for you. You’ll see a black circle with a line through it if you try to add a layer where a layer already exists. If you drag an existing layer, Dreamweaver won’t let you trespass on other layer positions either. The Prevent Layer Overlaps command is rather hidden in the Modify > Arrange submenu. A more convenient location is at the top of the Layers panel, where you’ll find a Prevent Overlaps check box.
