Snappy Browser Sizing

It sure is handy to have the ability to resize a browser window when you are doing site testing. Just a simple snippet of JavaScript can resize most any browser window. The resizeTo () function lets you specify a width and height argument that will snap the current browser window to the specified width and height values. Let’s create a page in Dreamweaver that you will view in the browser to later make into a browser “Favorite” or “Bookmark.” Click the Hyperlink object found in the Common category of the Insert bar. In the Text field, enter the text you want your Favorites/Bookmarks to display. I’ve used Resize to 800×600. In the Link field, type javascript:resizeTo (800,600), and then click OK. Now view the page in a browser. Right-click (Ctrl+Click) the hyperlink and select either Add to Favorites or Add Bookmark (or a similar command) from the context menu. If you are prompted that what you are adding may not be safe, confirm that it is okay to add it. Some browsers even let you click and drag the link into the browser toolbar so that the function is available as a button. Now whenever you want to resize a browser, just choose the favorite you created. To make your life easier, I’ve put together a few for you here: http://www.dwkillertips.com/go/23.
