The Layer Low-Down

Ready to make the move from table-based layout to CSS-P and looking for a leg up? Dreamweaver’s Modify > Convert > Tables to Layers might seem like a quick fix, but it’s a pretty sharp double-edged sword. The command is pretty thorough;if anything, it’s a little too thorough. Every object in the <body>, regardless of whether it is in a table, gets placed into a layer. How about example of such pedal-to-the-metal efficiency? Every content-filled (or background-using) cell within a table is put into a separate layer. For example, if you convert a page with a 3×5 table, you’ll end up with 15 layers. Bottom line: Use Convert Tables to Layers judiciously.
