Quick Editable Regions

When building a template from scratch, you can quickly add editable regions without having to select any existing content—a handy trick ’cause sometimes the content doesn’t exist yet. Just position the cursor where you’d like the editable region to appear and choose Insert > Template Objects > Editable Region. If you’re feeling dexterous, choose Ctrl+Alt+V (Command+Option+V). Want to point and click? Select the Editable Region object from the Templates menu in the Common category of the Insert bar. All these methods give you a chance to name the region and then put that name, as text, in the editable region. If I’m passing the template on to someone else, I try to replace the text—which also appears in the identifying tab—with something more meaningful, such as “Bio info on author goes here.” One other note on working with Dreamweaver-inserted editable regions: If you decide to remove the region, the included text stays behind and becomes part of your locked template, which means that you’ll have to delete that text manually.
