Nested Template Locking

One of my favorite moments is when you first create a new editable region in a nested template. Not only is your new editable region outlined in good old reliable blue, but the base template’s editable region also turns orange (tell any non-geek I said that, and I’ll deny it to my dying day). That works just swell for locking part of an editable region and keeping the other part open. However, what if you want to lock the entire region for a particular nested template while keeping it available for others? Not a problem—all you need is an unassociated template variable. Normally, a template variable looks like this: @@ (bgcolor) @@. If you leave out the variable name and insert the code anywhere in the editable region, however, the entire editable region is locked for all children of the nested template. In other words, you would change code like this:

<!-- InstanceBeginEditable name="guidelines" -->
<h2>New Administrative Guidelines Now in Effect </h2>
<!-- InstanceEndEditable -->
