Chapter 6. Assembly-Line Acceleration: R... > Whatever Happened to New From Templa...

Whatever Happened to New From Template...?

Back in the day of Dreamweaver 4, there was the File > New from Template command. Many have scoured the interface to find out how to make a new child page from a template. I told you back in Chapter 1 that there are context menus all over the place in Dreamweaver, some of which offer options available only in those very context menus. New from Template is one of those instances where you won’t find another menu command of its kind (unless you’ve customized Dreamweaver or happen to own my Template-Lover’s Suite of extensions available from the DWfaq.com store). Now that I’ve built you up with just a little anticipation, I’ll tell you that New from Template is in the context menu of the Assets panel’s Templates category. Another way to create a new page based on a template is to select File > New and select the Templates tab to choose a template from the list of sites and generate the new template-based page. Both of the methods I just described will do; the latter method I find faster than waiting for the Assets panel to initialize. However, I find that the customized menu offers the fastest way; so if you’re brave enough, I’ll show you how to do that in Chapter 10.
