Chapter 6. Assembly-Line Acceleration: R... > Editable Attributes, Two for Two

Editable Attributes, Two for Two

Here are a couple more pointers worth sharing that can help you work with editable attributes. Numerous attributes—such as width or height—require a numeric value, or what appears to be a numeric value. Because the attributes could actually be a percent or pixel designation, such as 75%, the value is really text. Therefore, when you are setting up your editable attributes in a template, specify the type as Text rather than Number. If you choose Number and try to enter a percentage or pixel value, Dreamweaver will bark at you when you save the template.

Ready for another tidbit? After you establish an editable attribute, you can apply it to as many tags as you like. This capability is quite handy when you want various elements on the page to share a characteristic. You could, for example, change the background image of a table cell on multiple tables. To apply the attribute in various tags, just copy and paste the attribute that includes the template variable.
