Chapter 6. Assembly-Line Acceleration: R... > Editable Attributes Blast Off

Editable Attributes Blast Off

I’ve got a warm spot by the bed for editable attributes. With this feature (accessible by choosing Modify > Templates > Make Attribute Editable), you can unlock only the essential aspects of an object, such as a table row’s background color, while keeping everything else (the alignment, the class, and so on) safe and secure. Editable attributes also enable you to unlock aspects of a tag while keeping the enclosed content nailed down. For all their power, there is a bit of a learning curve in figuring out how to best work with editable attributes. Here’s a tip that will help you skip a couple of steps in the setup process. Whenever possible, make sure that your tag already includes the attribute you plan to make editable. Although the Editable Tag Attributes dialog enables you to add any attribute you want, if the attribute is already in the tag—whether or not it has a value—you can simply pick it from a drop-down list. Otherwise, you have to choose Add and fill in the attribute name.
