Path to the Database

The toughest part of getting started with an ASP site is making the connection to the database. This is especially difficult if you don’t know the server’s path to the database file so that you can make your connection. To keep users from being able to browse to the database file on the web, a database should be stored a level above the root of the site. (If your host does not allow the database to be stored above your site’s root, they may provide an alternatively protected directory that cannot be browsed from the web.) To get the path to the database file, you need to know the name of the folder in which the file is stored as well as the filename. On any ASP page, somewhere in the code after the <body> tag, add the following:
