To Lock or Unlock: That Is the Question

Templates and dynamic applications are a real powerhouse combination. Many web applications are composed of similar, if not the same basic layout where only the dynamic content changes. In Dreamweaver, server-side code can be added to templates outside the <html> tags. This functionality is really super because it means changes can be made easily to both the server and static page elements; you could, for example, add a Restrict Access to Page server behavior to a template and instantly protect a full slate of pages. Dreamweaver also offers another degree of control of which you may not be aware: the area outside the <html> tags can be locked or editable, just like a region on the page. By default, this external area is unlocked, which allows server-side code to be added to any documents derived from a template. To lock the region, add this code in the <head> area:
