It Works Like This

Because this project relies entirely on CSS for styling and positioning, you can customize it in countless ways. This is a truly simple way to create a three-column layout. Depending on your current expertise in the CSS realm, you may choose to follow the project exactly or you may want to tweak it as you go. Here are the basic steps of the project:

1.
Learn a method of Tromp l’oeil (a French term meaning “to fool the eye”) that makes the viewer believe they are seeing through certain elements on your page using a fixed background image applied to various page elements.

2.
Learn to use the CSS cascade to really take control of your page. Use fonts creatively to replace images.

3.
Learn to style elements that are next to each other in the flow of the document using adjacent sibling selectors.

4.
Show a different button style to indicate which page the user is on, without any server-side code or JavaScript—only CSS.
