Project 8. Sending a Form to Email > Adding Styling to Your Pages with CSS

Adding Styling to Your Pages with CSS

To avoid “plain Jane” pages (and to learn a couple more features of Dreamweaver MX 2004), you’re going to add some CSS to the two pages you just created.

1.
Make contact.cfm the active document.

Note

A couple keyboard shortcuts help you navigate between document tabs. Ctrl+Tab/Cmd+` makes the tab to the right of the current tab active. If the current tab is the rightmost tab, then the first tab on the left becomes the active tab. Ctrl+Shift+Tab/Cmd+Shift+` performs the same operation, but moves to the left.

2.
Open the CSS Styles panel, and click the Attach Style Sheet button to open the Attach External Style Sheet dialog.

3.
On the lower left of the dialog, click the Sample Style Sheets link to open the Sample Style Sheets dialog.

4.
Select Full Design: Accessible from the list of sample style sheets.

5.
Click the Browse button, select a folder within your site to store the new style sheet, and then click OK to attach the newly created style sheet to your document.

Tip

If you have an existing page to which you’d like to attach one of Dreamweaver MX 2004’s sample style sheets, but you’re not sure which one would look best with your page, press the Preview button. Your page behind the dialog will be displayed using the styles defined in the selected sample style sheet. Don’t worry—if you don’t like the effect, clicking the Cancel button will remove the styles displayed using the Preview button.

6.
Switch back to thankyou.cfm, and click the Attach Style Sheet button in the CSS Styles panel.

Accessible_Design.css, the CSS file created in step 5, should be listed in the File/URL field of the Attach External Style Sheet dialog. If not, click Browse and find Accessible_Design.css within your site.

7.
Click OK to attach Accessible_Design.css to your document.

8.
Save your work.
