Preparing to Work

To prepare for this project, you will need to do the following:

1.
First, install the Server.Execute Translator extension, ServerExecute.mxp, located in the Projects/11/Extensions folder on the CD. See Appendix A, “Installing Extensions,” for more information.

2.
Copy the necessary files from the Projects folder on the CD. If you want to start from scratch and work each page as you go through the chapter, copy just the assets subfolder from the Projects/11 folder to a location on your hard drive. If you want to get a sneak peek at the files, copy the entire folder.

3.
Define a new site using the Projects/11 copy as your site root. Ensure that you specify ASP VBScript as the server model in your site definition.

4.
To build the site structure, create a folder for each main section of the gallery, a folder for includes, a folder for menus, and an assets folder for images and style sheets. The includes folder will have site navigation includes as well as the content switcher, which will use Server.Execute to load the menus. The menus folder will hold each section’s individual menu.

5.
Create a folder for each main section of the gallery: Portraits, Panels, and Whites. Under Panels, add two subfolders: ForSale and Installations. You will use these subfolders for testing the menu as you move deeper into a section of the site.

6.
Add a default.asp file to each folder, as well as one file for each submenu you’re going to create (name them by section: portraits.asp, panels.asp, and whites.asp). Create a contentswitcher.asp and nav.asp file in the includes directory. These last two will hold the site navigation and the actual content switcher for the site.
