Chapter 17. Using Reports > Understanding Reports

Understanding Reports

A report is a detailed account of characteristics of your eLearning site that helps you locate potential problems or document your efforts. Reports can be run on a single file or multiple files. Some reports, such as Checked Out By, aren’t very useful on a single file (it’s easy to figure out who has a single file checked out without running a report). Other reports, such as Missing Alt Text, might yield overwhelming results when run on an entire site. Luckily, it’s easy to run reports multiple times until you figure out the most meaningful scope for your report.

The Reports command is under the Site menu in Dreamweaver’s Design window or Site window. This command launches the Reports dialog box, shown in Figure 17.1. You select the scope of the report in the Report On drop-down menu at the top of the dialog box. You can select the current document, the entire local site, selected files in the site (you must be in Site window to use this choice), or a certain folder. If you set the scope of the report as a folder, you’ll need to click the folder icon to browse to the folder you’d like to report on.
