Chapter 16. Safely Collaborating and Sha... > Synchronizing the Local and Remote S...

Synchronizing the Local and Remote Sites

Use the Synchronize command to make sure that both the local and remote sites are up to date. The Synchronize command compares file-modified dates on the remote and local sites. If a team member has modified a file and moved it to the remote site, it will have a more recently modified date than the file in your local site. Use this command to make sure both the local and remote sites have the most recent file versions before making changes or reviewing the project on the server.

This command is a little scary at first but will save time after you understand how to properly use it. Many new Dreamweaver users are concerned that the Synchronize command will somehow destroy the file structure of their sites and prefer to trust themselves to manually synchronize the local and remote sites. I prefer to use the Synchronize command and have never had it “misfire” and cause issues with my site. The command gives you a preview of the transfers it’s proposing so that you can review the list before synchronizing the site.
