Defining Positioning and Layout Styles

To create a uniform framework for an online learning application, you use tables and layers to organize, divide, and define the Web pages. You can create Dreamweaver layout tables—tables specifically used to arrange content on a Web page—to quickly create a complex table. You’ll use Dreamweaver layers to position content any place on the Web page, and use both tables and layers to lay out the online learning application interface in Chapter 6, “Constructing the Interface.”

In the following sections, you’ll explore how to create a layer to hold the instructional text you’ll present in your online learning application. To create a border around the text, you’ll place a single-cell table within the layer. You’ll control the appearance and positioning by using CSS styles.
