Recording Commands

You can record a set of steps in Dreamweaver and save them as a command. A recorded command is available only during your current Dreamweaver session; when you close Dreamweaver, the command is erased. Later in this chapter, you’ll learn how to save a command to the Command menu for use over and over.

Commands help you automate recurring tasks. Writing a Dreamweaver command from scratch is difficult; however, you can easily create a complex command by using Dreamweaver’s capability to record a set of steps. A command in Dreamweaver is similar to a macro in other programs. The best application of a recorded command is when you need to apply a set of attributes to objects on a Web page or an entire site. Although there are other ways to automate global changes, such as Dreamweaver’s Find and Replace capabilities, recorded commands offer a quick method of repeating a set of steps.
