Creating a Custom Object: An Image with Accessible Text

When you insert an image into your page, you use the alt attribute to add a textual description. The alt attribute is read by a text reader application for folks who are visually impaired. Alt text is also useful for those who are viewing your online learning application with a text-only browser, such as Lynx (this is probably not very common).

There is a new accessibility attribute for an image object: the longdesc attribute. This attribute specifies an HTML file containing a comprehensive text description, longer than what should be entered for the alt attribute. Unfortunately, this attribute isn’t supported yet in most of the major browsers.
