Chapter 6. Constructing the Interface > Adding Buttons for Navigation

Adding Buttons for Navigation

Computer users are familiar with buttons and button functionality. Most online learning applications have buttons enabling the learner to navigate through the course. Buttons are an important element of the interface, facilitating the learner’s progression through the pages in the online learning application. You’ll create button functionality from images or add Flash movies to create buttons.

Understanding Button States

Buttons usually have shadowed edges, consistent shading, and different representations for the various button states, such as down, up, and over. A button can have five different states: up, down, over, over while down, and disabled. An image is required for each state used for the button. Initially, the button is in the up state.
