Creating Library Items

You’ve created a template and used it as a base for entire Web pages, but what if you want to reuse just a group of objects instead of a whole Web page? Dreamweaver enables you to create library items, which are a group of objects, stored in the library, that you can drag and drop onto any Web page. Library items contain groups of objects, formatted exactly as you wish, that you can add to Web pages. Like templates, they can be automatically updated by editing the original library items and updating all the instances of the item within your site.

Library items are stored in the Library category of the Assets panel. When you create the initial library item, Dreamweaver automatically creates a Library directory in the root of your site. Library items are actually snippets of HTML code that can be added to a Web page once or many times. Dreamweaver wraps library item tags around the item, so you’ll see <mm:libitem> in the Tag Selector when you select a library item in the Document window.
