Summary

As one part of a longer, more detailed product design process, the product vision process described in this chapter sets the stage for a comprehensive user requirements and interface design phase. In particular, the goals in the persona profiles are simply the first step toward exploring and describing of the product’s ultimate functionality. In addition, because the product vision process is almost exclusively user-centered, it ignores critical issues related to the product’s economic viability and technical feasibility.

Still, these tools are useful but, unfortunately, often ignored methods of defining a product vision. Used in concert, they instill a sense of confidence, clarity, and certainty throughout the design and development teams. The value of the following documents, particularly compared to the minimal time and effort to produce them, cannot be underestimated:
