Images and the Web

Images destined for use on the web need to be planned and handled much differently than print-media graphics, and a grounding in the basics of these distinctions is important for the web developer.

Supported File Formats

Web browsers currently support two types of graphic file formats, GIF and JPEG, with a third, PNG, beginning to gain support. Although all three graphic types are compressed, they each compress the graphic data differently.
