Working with <meta> Tags

Meta means “about.” The purpose of the <meta> tag is to store information about the current document for possible processing by browsers, servers, search engines, or even lowly humans viewing the source code. For each different kind of information you want to store, you use a different <meta> tag. HTML documents can have as many <meta> tags as needed, all stored in the head.

How <meta> Tags Store Information

Information is generally stored in the <meta> tag as a name/value pair, using the name and content attributes. Like this:
