Chapter 14. Using Layers for Page Layout > Working with Layers in Dreamweaver

Working with Layers in Dreamweaver

Dreamweaver makes working with layers easy, at least in the sense that its point-and-click tools enable you to add layers to your pages and set properties for them without any knowledge of the underlying code. However, be careful that this ease of use doesn’t lull you into a false sense of security; the fact that Dreamweaver enables you to add an element on a page that generates code doesn’t mean that this code will work in every browser and every situation. In working with layers, as with any and all web design work, it is necessary to test your pages early and often in a number of different browsers, at least in the browsers that will be used by your target audience.

Creating Layers

Dreamweaver gives you several options for creating layers. Your main choice is one of work style—would you rather draw your layers, like you would in a graphics or page layout program? Or would you rather insert your layers ready-made, without drawing?
