Part V: Dreamweaver and Dynamic Data > Building a Basic JSP Site

Chapter 31. Building a Basic JSP Site

Of all the server technologies, JSP is probably the most intimidating for newcomers to this arena. If you’re just starting out, you might want to get your feet wet with ASP, ColdFusion, or PHP first. JSP has a lot to offer developers, but it’s mostly of interest to those already working with Java. If you’re reading this chapter, you’re probably either working in an environment where Java is already being used for web development, or you want to learn Java. JSP has some exciting development options, such as JavaBeans and custom tag libraries—and Dreamweaver has tools for working with all of them. This chapter will take you through the steps of setting up your workstation for Java application serving, defining a JSP site within Dreamweaver, and using the Dreamweaver tools to create a basic live data page. This chapter also touches on using JavaBean collections and custom tags.
