Chapter 14. Using Layers for Page Layout


What is a layer? If you search an HTML reference, you’ll find that there is a Netscape-specific tag called <layer>, but this is not what is meant by the term in Dreamweaver or its current usage. This book uses layer as it is now commonly used, to refer to a specific page building block produced by Dreamweaver. A layer is a <div> (or occasionally a <span>) element, positioned with inline CSS styles.
