Chapter 3. Creating and Working with Doc... > Importing Pages from Other Sources

Importing Pages from Other Sources

You can use Dreamweaver to edit any HTML page, whether it was created in Dreamweaver or somewhere else. There is no such thing as a “Dreamweaver file.” It does not create a proprietary file format like Flash does. A Flash FLA file can be opened only with Flash. You can open up pretty much any type of web file within Dreamweaver and edit it. This includes HTML web pages, JavaScript files, and even regular text files.

Converting a FrontPage Site

Microsoft FrontPage is another WYSIWYG HTML editor. It contains many of the same functions as Dreamweaver, including some automated features specific to Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions (which are located at your server and are proprietary to FrontPage). However, it still does not write the most efficient code, and many people are converting from FrontPage to Dreamweaver. Although by default Dreamweaver can edit any HTML page, available extensions can help you with the conversion process.
