Chapter 18. Animating Layers > Timelines and Behaviors

Timelines and Behaviors

In addition to straightforward animation effects, timelines can be combined with behaviors to create complex interactive animations. Timeline frames can contain behaviors that will be triggered when the playback head reaches them. And timelines can be started, stopped, and have their looping controlled interactively through Timeline behaviors triggered by user events (such as onMouseOver or onClick) or window events (such as onLoad).

Animating Behaviors

Just as you can use the timeline to change image and layer properties at specified times, you can set any Dreamweaver behavior to execute at a certain time by attaching it to the timeline. (Flash users: This is similar to using frame actions, except that no keyframes need be set.) Referring back to Figure 18.2, note the channel labeled B. This is the behavior channel. Any Dreamweaver behavior can be attached to any frame in this channel, and will execute when the playback head passes that frame.
