Chapter 18. Animating Layers > The Timeline Interface

The Timeline Interface

Dreamweaver enables you to create and manipulate JavaScript animations within a timeline interface, using the Timelines panel (accessible from Window > Others > Timelines) and the Modify > Timeline menu for creating and manipulating timelines. Timeline interfaces are not the only way to approach computer animations, but they do provide an easy-to-grasp, visual representation of the time dimension that many developers are already familiar with from animation programs such as Director, Flash, and Fireworks.

The Timelines Panel

Figure 18.2 shows the Timelines panel and its various elements. The timeline looks something like a spreadsheet, showing units of time as columns and each animated element as a row. Note that, though the figure shows the panel in its undocked state, if you’re using Dreamweaver/Windows with the integrated workspace it might initially appear docked at the bottom of the application window.
