Chapter 6. The Design of Everyday Pages > The Keep-in-Touch Email

The Keep-in-Touch Email

Desired response

Users are drawn back to your site again and again.

Although emails aren’t web pages , as far as the Internet is concerned, the web and email are equal parts in the online experience. Email, however, is much more pervasive (I bet you know more people who use the Internet to check their email than to just surf the web) and is also much more personal (users will take much more ownership over their email than a web page any day). Users won’t necessarily check out your web site on a regular basis, but they will check their email. For many companies and web sites, email is the only direct communication link they have with their customers. This is why you need to send out email every so often to keep in touch with customers and draw them back to your site. Use the guidelines presented in this section along with those presented in the “Set Up the Next Transaction” section in Chapter 5.
