Chapter 2. Setting Up Your UltraDev Work... > Understanding Web Server Processes

Understanding Web Server Processes

Although you might already be familiar with the process of requesting and serving static Web pages written in HyperText Markup Language (HTML), the process of serving a dynamically generated page is a bit more complex. This chapter starts with a quick overview of the steps taken to generate both static and dynamic Web pages, which can help you in planning the initial setup of your workstation, your Web server, and your Web site.

As shown in Figure 2.1, when a Web browser requests a static HTML Web page, the Web server software simply locates the HTML code for the Web page and then transmits it to the browser where it is displayed. The code may be stored on the local hard drive, a network server, or on the Internet.
