Establishing Relationships and Verifying Referential Integrity

The next step in developing your relational database is to create relationships between your tables. Relationships ensure that redundant data is kept to a minimum by allowing you to store in a field a pointer to the data in another table, rather than entering the data in both tables.

In addition, it is important to verify that the referential integrity of the relationships is enabled. This ensures that when data is changed in a field in a parent table, the data in the child table will be updated as well.
