Testing the Administration Site

The final step in building any Web site is to make sure that it works. In the case of this administration site, you want to ensure that only authenticated users are allowed access. In addition, you want to make sure that each page functions as expected, especially those that add, edit, and update records in the database.

Exercise 11.11 Testing the Administration Site

1.
Minimize UltraDev and open a browser window. In the address bar, type http://localhost/insideud4/admin.

Leaving the logon form blank, click Submit and notice that UltraDev denies access without a proper username and password.

In the Username field type nrfempburnsm and type smackdown in the Password field.

Click Submit. As shown in Figure 11.25, the username and password are valid so the login confirmation is displayed.

Click the link to continue to the main menu.

From the main menu, click the Add A Product link.

In the Product Addition Page, fill in the form as shown in Figure 11.26. Note that the full URL for the image is http://localhost/insideud4/images/ theshadow.jpg and the description is “The very first episode of The Shadow.”

Click the Insert Record button and notice that UltraDev confirms that the entry was added.

Click the link to return to the main menu.

From the main menu, click the Product Search link.

In the Show Title field, type Shadow and click the Submit button. As shown in Figure 11.27, the query returns two records, both with the Show Title “The Shadow.” The results include the recently added title.

Click the Edit button for The Death House Rescue. The Edit Record Page, shown in Figure 11.28, allows you to make changes to the record.

Change the price of the episode from 13.99 to 10.99. Click the Update Record button and notice that the update is confirmed.

Click the link to return to the main menu.

At the main menu, click the Product Search link and search for product number MY3905. The search returns the recently added record.

Click the Delete link. As shown in Figure 11.29, the Record Deletion Confirmation page asks whether you really want to delete the record.

Click the Submit button and notice that the product’s deletion has been confirmed. Click the link to return to the main menu.

Once again, click the Product Search page and search for the title “Shadow.” Notice that the recently deleted episode no longer appears in the results.

Click the Return To Administrative Menu link.

20.
Click the Logout button. The confirmation page successfully logs you out.

21.
Click the back button to return to the main menu and then click the Product Search link. The site automatically redirects you to the login page because your session has expired.
